Robert ot hit home, 5600 Penn professor of French ot the Stale Bears Prison Cost? Post-Gazette Horrltburo Bureau HARRISBURG The state House last night passed and sent to the Senate legislation that would have the state gradually assume the full cost of housing prisoners in correctional institutions. The cost of maintaining a prisoner in a state correctional institution, such as Western State, now must be paid by the county from which the prisoner was sentenced. If the Senate goes along with the House amendments, and Gov. Shapp signs the bill, the state would assume the cost in four steps, taking over the total burden in the 1974-75 fiscal year. The takeover was expected to cost the state $19,101,000 in fiscal 1974-75, the first year in which the state would assume total cost.

The measure was passed by the House on a 146-to-42 vote. BKOOKS) rUNcRAL HOME. Ill style Number. East Green Connellsvllle, after p. m.
