"When Jennifer was 4, and other kids were making mud pies, Jennifer pretended she was making potato knishes. Now she's a big help putting deli trays together, and Scott doesn't mind cracking the 96 eggs it takes to start a matzo ball mix.

Shugerman-Glasser said she enjoys preparing the special requests that come for party trays or dinners, such as carrot and prune tzimmes, Eotato kugel, kreplach-stuffed kish-e and potato pancakes (latkes). "We serve at least 800 pancakes a day." At breakfast, potato pancakes are three for $3.65. Two pancakes with corned beef are $5.95. Either order comes with a choice of sour cream or applesauce. Rhoda's is a deli that's kept its traditions while keeping pace with a variety of tastes.

It is not a review of the restaurant. By Alice Demetrius Stock Twenty-six years ago, Robert Shugerman expanded an existing restaurant and delicatessen at 2201 Murray Ave. in Squirrel Hill. He named the new establishment for his wife, Rhoda. Robert and Rhoda Shugerman have retired, but daughters, Amy Shugerman-Glasser and Pamela Shugerman, their nephew, David Kendall, and Amy's husband, Jack Glasser, are owners of Rhoda's Restaurant and Deli, a family-style eatery.

"The family works as a team running the kitchen and delicatessen," Amy Shugerman-Glasser said. The deli and mini-grocery offer items such as ice cream, homemade soups, bagels, sliced meats, and at least 60 kinds of beer to go. Beyond the deli section is a restaurant with seating for 117 customers. Shugerman-Glasser said she "grew up in the restaurant," working after school and on weekends and holidays with her parents. Today, it's not unusual for her to work 16 hours a day.

"When Jack proposed, I warned him: 'Marry me and you marry the she said. Shugerman-Glasser expects their children, Jennifer, 12, and Scott, 9, will be the third generation to carry on the family business. major credit cards. Casual. Bar.
