Survivors told graphic tales of the disaster that ended the excursion into Florida's famous marine gardens. No life boats were aboard, survivors said. Life preservers were torn from their hangings, the survivors related here, and hastily donned as the flames gained headway. The passengers jumped from the two decks of the Eureka II into 10 feet of water. All were said to have worn preservers. The Eureka II was a patented boat.

First Mate Al Styles, brother of the captain, said. It was built on two pontoons, with a well in the center. A movablo glass plate could be raised or lowered in the well by machinery. The boat was valued. Styles said, at approximately $75,000.

Styles said all passengers had ample time to don life preservers after the explosion and there was many more preservers than there were passengers.
