November 29, it will be just two days more than one year old as a hit production on Broadway, yet the original company will be seen here. The revue opened last November 27, in the former Princess Theater, New York, renamed Labor Stage, which is the title of the producing group. A month later a labor union realized that it was in the show businessafter four years of cultural effort that began with the presentation of one-act plays for I membership, mass indoor pageants. and the like that were so well thought of that they were sometimes taken to other cities. Editor Takes Hold David Dubinsky, president of the International Ladies' Garment Workers Union, which recently withdrew from the CIO, during its convention here, began it all several years ago.

He invited Louis Schaffer, for five years editor of Forward, a labor publication, to Join the Garment Workers as director of the cultural and recreational division. Within it developed classes and groups devoted to sports and studies. Eventually came a dramatic movement that interested several groups and out of this emanated an interest in and demand for plays representative of the aspirations of labor. One-act plays that were tried failed and the first big dent in the field of art was made with a festival of musk, dance and drama, the feature of which was the mass recitation of 'In The Factory." Theater Acquired Next step in the development of the idea was the transforming of the Princess into a labor theater. Even then there was no thought of becoming public entertainers, on the scale represented in the touring of "Pins And Needles." That came many months later, 18 to be exact, and in between were many dramatic activities for labor audiences only.

That class attendance, indeed, was all that "Pins And Needles" was prepared for originally. Sanders, now in London. has been cabled to take the first lboat home and he will be here by the end of the month to begin Saint Strikes Twice." This i is the first time on record that a studio has stepped beyond its own contracted list to borrow a star for an entire series.

TIIEODORE EISE who created such a furore when Paramount made his "An American Tragedy" into a picture, and who vowed he wouldn't ever have anything to do with pictures again, is coming out to the Coast the end of the month to spend the winter. Apparently he has changed his about the movies for he has been going over some of his better books with an eye for picture material. Several studios at one time were interested in his "Sister Carrie," but, because of the stringent censorship, they all abandoned the idea. Now, we hear, Dreiser who would have fainted at one time at the idea of changing one of his stories, is trying to iron out the objctions for picture-making. Korda Stepping Down Alexander Korda's withdrawal from the London Films Company, is more than an idle rumor.

His reasons for breaking away from the Denham studios, according to one of his associates. are entirely undestandable. Korda. It seems, had all the responsibility of leasing the huge stages and also the supervision of every picture made by the London Films Company. He felt that under the circumstances, he was unable to devote his personal attention to his own pictures.

So now, instead of being tied down to other producers' movies, he will make only three pictures a year. which he will personally direct and produce. 16.Milo Anderson, one of the ace costume designers of the business, has just finished working over charts and graphs to discover that the average of the screen's feminine stars will find a girl five feet, five inches tall and weighing 116 pounds. He figures next year's figures will be half an inch taller and a pound' heavier. It's Anderson's Job to know these things because he's always flgur-' ing costumes a year in advance. Just in case. Milo finds blondes as a whole are lighter and shorter than brunettes or red-heads.
