see or oner and have ear. For appointment write to District Msnsser, irankim Roosevelt Supreme Court packing plan was a chief factor that took him out of consideration. He was as assistant attorney general in 1938. Before the death of the late Chief Justice Fred M. Vinson, Mr.

Warren, who had announced he would not be a candiate to succeed himself as California's governor, had been mentioned for a number of important Federal posts. It was almost a certainty he would be offered some office if he wished to pome to Washington. Others Considered The California, governor's name came into speculation for Chief Justice soon after Mr. Vinson's death. But the President's original thinking, it Is learned on good authority, was to elevate Mr.

Jackson to Chief Justice and name Governor, Warren to the Jackson seat Then Justice Jackson's stand on the bitterly disputed Roosevelt court reform plan came into question and though other reasons later might have entered this was enough to shift the thinking to the California governor. Some others were considered and for one reason or another passed over. Age was a factor in the cases of Chief Justice Arthur T. Vanderbilt of the New Jersey Supreme Court and Chief U. S.

Appeals Court Judge John J. Parker of North Carolina. Plenty of Ability Justice Jackson had come onto the court as a Democrat but his ability, shown in such offices as Attorney General and solicitor general and in his court opinions, was Impressive. Governor Warren never had judicial experience. Nonetheless, Mr.

Elsenhower turned to him because he was a man of legal competency and of recognized national integrity. Mr. Warren had served years as district attorney and state attorney general in California and was considered a man who had demonstrated an un-partisan approach and judicial temperament. Mr. Eisenhower believed sincerely "that Governor Warren would be a real credit to the court.

Administrative Ability There were other factors in his favor. He was 62 some years younger than most others considered. As governor he had dem MARTIN-PARRY CORPORATIOM 8., father of Jane; son of Mrs. Mary Schumann and the late Frederick brother of Mrs. Eleanor Gordon, Mrs.
